Acta geographica Slovenica - Geografski zbornik is the main Slovenian geographical scientific journal published by the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

It was first published in 1952, and fourteen issues appeared periodically until 1976. Granted more permanent government funding, it has been published annually since 1976. From 2003, it is published twice a year. The journal is subsequently published in print and on the Internet in both Slovene and English since 1995. Each year, it is distributed in exchange for 200 scientific journals from around the world. The articles on the internet are read in more than 80 countries.

The primary goal of Acta geographica Slovenica - Geografski zbornik has always been to enrich Slovene geography with original scientific and research contributions. Initially, the journal was published under the auspices of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, but following the reorganization of the Academy's research units or institutes in 1981, this work was included in the organizational framework of the new Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, of which Anton Melik Geographical Institute is a component part.

Regardless of all organizational changes, the publications of the Anton Melik Geographical Institute, especially Acta geographica Slovenica - Geografski zbornik, were always open to all Slovene geographers. Acta geographica Slovenica - Geografski zbornik published contributions not only from regular members of the Institute but also articles by contributors from the University of Ljubljana and from other research institutions, government organizations, etc.

More than 230 varied dissertations, studies, and reports on more than 10.000 pages of text along with many thematic maps and other supplementary materials were published in the period 1952-2005. In many ways Acta geographica Slovenica - Geografski zbornik has always mirrored the current research activity and scientific orientation of the Anton Melik Geographical Intstitute, as well as of Slovene geography in general.

Acta geographica Slovenica - Geografski zbornik welcomes articles from all geographers in Slovenia and around the world, as well as articles from those in related fields whose scientific and research work can enrich the overall view of the geographical environment.
