1. Submission of manuscript

The one to whom correspondence should be addressed should be indicated by an asterisk and a complementary footnote with telephone and fax numbers (not published). If none is so indicated we will contact the first-listed author.
The guidelines provide all instructions for the submission of the final manuscript, with the exception that in pdf documents figures should be embedded in the file, either in the text at the preferred position or at the end of the file.

Hard copy submission

The original and two copies of a manuscript should be sent to:

Karst Research Institute
Titov trg 2
SI-6230 Postojna (Slovenia)

All figures, tables and captions must be printed with a high resolution. Low-quality prints will not be accepted for the journal.

Electronic submission

We recommend that authors send a pdf file of the manuscript as an e-mail attachment to . Electronic submission accelerates the review. Authors are prompted to suggest two names as potential reviewers. The editors will decide whether or not they will be accepted.

Reviewing

All papers submitted for publication in the journal are perused for relevance and merit by two qualified independent reviewers. Based on their written evaluations, the editor, together with the editorial board decides to accept the paper with or without corrections or to reject it. Their reviews and the editor's decision are conveyed the corresponding author.

2. Preparation and submission of the final version

General notes

If a paper is accepted for publication the authors will be asked to provide the final manuscript. It should be written by a word processor and submitted in doc or rtf format (but see note on pdf format, above). Keep the layout simple; do not use headers and footers. Do not use the word processor's options to justify or to hyphenate words. Tables and equations should be part of the text. Do not embed any excel or similar graphs into the text.

Structure

- Title page
- Abstract + Keywords
- Main Text
- References
- List of figures
Each unit should start with a new page.

Title page

The title page includes the title of the paper, the name(s) of the author(s) without academic titles, their affiliations, fax and e-mail addresses. The title should be short, but descriptive of the content. If it includes a local or parochial name, this must be accompanied by the parenthetical inclusion of a more general appellative, the name of a larger geographic entity for better understanding of the location of the site.

Abstract and keywords

The abstract may attain a maximum of 300 words. Authors should provide 4 to 6 keywords. Guidance for their selection may be obtained from the most recent American Geological Institute GeoRef Thesaurus. Keywords are immediately below the abstract.

Text

The text is limited to 5000 words. Contact the editor prior to submission of the manuscript if you wish to publish a longer paper. References in the text consist of the surname(s) of the author(s), followed by the year of publication in parentheses. All references cited in the text must be in the list of references and vice versa. Cite figures and tables as Fig.number and Tab.number. Tables and table captions produced by a word processor may be included in the text.

References

The list of references is in alphabetical order after the text. Entries by the same author are in order by date, the oldest first. See examples of citations for details.

List of figures

List all figure captions (including photos) in one tally using the same format throughout. The form should be: Fig.number: and explanatiory text next to it (e.g. Fig.1: Description).

Figures

- Each figure should be submitted in a separate file. Each files must include the figure number (e.g. Fig1.jpg, Fig2.eps, etc.). Do NOT embed figures in the text.

- Vector graphics are accepted only in eps (Encapsulated Postscript) format made with the "text as curves" option. No other vector formats should be sent: they will not be accepted.

- Raster figures and photos should be in one of the common types (e.g. tiff, jpg, bmp). Resolution must be at least 300 dpi. Raster files of line drawings should have a resolution of 600 dpi.

- Use colours only if necessary, i.e. when substantial information is lost if a grey-scale format is used. The Editor reserves the right to change a tinted illustration to greyscale when he/she considers that no information is lost thereby.

Note: If you cannot supply electronic figures contact the editor for further instructions.
