Author Guidelines

In order to offer as much flexibility as possible, different means of publication are available, as follows:

  • Short Articles: papers with up to 6 pages, A4 format, double-spaced, including text, figures and references. Short Articles aim at a rapid ublication of partial/preliminary scientific results of research in course;
  • Comprehensive Articles: These are scientific contributions like the complete papers published in printed journals, have but with the advantage of of electronic editing tools (maps, graphs and figures and animations in color, etc.). The papers are limited to 30 pages, A4 format, double spaced, with provision for text, figures and references;
  • Papers on Natural Sciences, Reviews, History of Earth Science and Reprints: at making available the works on natural sciences, bibliographic compilation, history of science and reprints of papers linked to relevant themes of the Earth Sciences and the Environment. The papers are limited to 30 pages, A4 format, double-spaced. Depending on an evaluation made by the Editorial Board;
  • Special Volumes Papers for reprint can exceed thirty pages: At the discretion of the Editorial Advisory Boards, special volumes of Geo.br can be published, containing: 1) works (proceedings) presented in congresses, symposia, etc.; 2) explanatory notes for maps; 3) educational CDs; etc.

On the preparation of publications
  • Abstracts in Portuguese and English: Abstracts should be limited to 200 words for Short Articles and 400 words for Comprehensive Articles. Up to 5 keywords in Portuguese and English respectively must follow each abstract;
  • The Text: The text must be sent in a format compatible with Microsoft Word. The font to be adopted is Times New Roman, size 12. The A4 page must have 2.5cm-wide upper, lower and lateral margins;
  • Tables: Preferentially, tables should be compiled in Microsoft Word. They must be numbered and cited sequentially in the text and fit into the page size taking into account the 2.5cm margins. The tables should be self-explanatory and concise;
  • Equations and Formulae: Prefentially, the Microsoft Word equation editor should be used. Equations and formulae must be numbered sequentially on their right-hand side, with Arabic numerals in brackets and be referred in the text as "equation (1)", etc.;
  • Images, figures and graphs: They must be numbered in sequence in the text. There are no restrictions concerning the use of colors in figures and images. On the contrary, authors are encouraged to present figures, graphs and images in color to illustrate their paper. Images, figures and graphs must be sent in a format feasible for electronic publication (.jpg) and both text and symbols must be readable on the computer screen. The use of graphic images, tables and pictures that require prior permission for publication is the total responsibility of the authors, who must obtain the necessary permissions;
  • References References must be presented in a list of references following the text. In the text, references are keyed by the author's name (without initials) and year of publication (e.g. Silva 1967). For two authors use the letter "e" or & (and) between the names. For three or more authors use the first followed by et al.. The list of references must be arranged alphabetically by author's names. The list of references must follow the formats below (adopted by Revista Brasileira de Geociências):
  • Papers from periodicals:
    Batchelor R.A., Bowden P. 1985. Petrogenetic interpretation of granitoids series using multicationic parameters. Chemical Geology, 48: 43-55.
