M@ppemonde

In order to be published in the review

The editorial committee of M@ppemonde is interested in seeing and will examine carefully for possible publication any proposal for an article, an annotated picture, notes, viewpoints, book reviews, announcements concerning a publication or a colloquium, correspondence and subjects for discussion.

In principle the documents submitted must be original and free of royalty, but possible exceptions will be studied and examined carefully.

Articles are examined by at least two reviewers. Decisions regarding publication are made by the editorial committee which meets once a month. Authors are notified as soon as the committee has made a decision.

The journal accepts proposals of which certain technical aspects have not yet been resolved because the authors are not competent to make them (interactive maps, animations, etc.).

In collaboration with the author the publications team will do its best to develop programs and forms that yield the best results. It is better to submit a clean drawing in colored pencil illustrating what is wanted for its animation rather than maps that were constructed using software both inappropriate and difficult to use. Authors are requested insofar as possible to send their contributions by E-mail; in the event that the file is too large or because of some other difficulty, diskettes, CD's and zip files are accepted. Authors' rights are protected by copyrights and the registration of copyright law and by the commitments of our readers. Their contribution will be accessible permanently on the site because all information is kept online. In recompense the authors cede to M@ppemonde exclusive rights to their contribution; however authorizations for reassignment are conceivable under certain circumstances on request by the author or his representatives.

M@ppemonde is favorable to the deposition by authors of their published works (postprint) in the open archives. This authorization is restricted to authors, and does not in any manner signify that the review has abandoned its rights as regards any third party. (see rights of access).

Conditions for Deposition:

For articles published in 2004and thereafter (electronic review):

Authors have the right to deposit the complete text of their article ( postprint, PDF version furnished by the review) under the express condition that at the same time a link is established with the HTML version published in the review.

For older articles published in Mappemonde (printed review, 1986-2003):

Authors have the right to deposit the complete text of their article (postprint, PDF version furnished by the review) in open archives (HAL type: Hyper Archive online).

Authors are not remunerated.

Recommendations for Authors

1. Text:

Documents must be submitted in Word format(.doc .rtf).

2. Illustrations: (graphics, maps, photographs, sketches)

Insofar as possible, authors are requested to present their illustrations in digital form. It is desirable that each illustration be a discrete attachment.

Recommended Formats:

Vector Documents: Illustrator (eps, ai)

Bitmap Documents: jpeg, tiff, or png (minimum resolution 150 dpi, maximum 300 dpi)

3. Remarks concerning attachments made by Geographic Information Systems

The use of SIG software tends to produce complex graphic objects in proprietary formats not suitable for publication. Authors that make use of SIG are strongly urged to transfer them to a format compatible with the requirements of the review (see list above).

If the author needs only to send a map base and accessory data, he should export them in the following formats:

Mif-mid (Mapinfo® interchange)
Shape (Format Arcview®)
e00( (format Arcinfo®)

If he wants to send a more complex document (a thematic analysis in SIG jargon) he must export the completed map in ai or eps format (Adobe Illustrator®) constructed in layouts that correspond to the objects present in the SIG. Most SIG software permits the direct export of this format.
