Project presentation

Bérose is a project led by LAHIC. This research program aims to develop a database that retraces, over a period ranging from the eighteenth to the early twentieth century, where and when ethnographic knowledge (conceived as knowledge of the differences) was born and tries to explain what makes a particular “culture” unique in a context of progressive assertion of the nation states and colonial powers. Bérose is a collaborative tool made of:
-a corpus of digitized sources: mainly journals/reviews and correspondence;
-a place of research on the scientific social networks leading to the establishment of relational mapping;
-a place for electronic publishing of research results.
