Patrick Quéffélec received his PhD degree in Electronics from the Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Brest, France, in 1994 and his Habilitation à diriger des recherches [accreditation to supervise research] in 2002.
He is now a professor at the Laboratory of Sciences and Techniques of Information, Communication and Knowledge (Lab-STICC), a research unit associated with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (UMR CNRS n°6285). In Lab-STICC, he is the Head of the Microwave, Optoelectronics, Material Research Department. His research activities concern electromagnetic wave propagation in heterogeneous and anisotropic media. He works on developing new approaches in materials and measurements for microwave ferrites and devices. Motivated by the applications of new magnetic materials in non-reciprocal or tuneable devices, in antennas, he is investigating the fundamental properties of magnetoelectric nanocomposites at microwave frequencies.
He has authored and co-authored over 120 refereed journal and conference papers, 3 patents and 2 book chapters. He gave 13 invited talks. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of the Technical Committee Microwave Control Materials and Devices of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. He supervised 15 PhD, 4 post-doctoral research fellows and 18 Master research students graduated.
Physics based modelling of microwave phenomena in anisotropic magnetized media and functional devices,
Microwave and mm-wave frequencies characterisation and measurements of functional electromagnetic materials (ferromagnetic and ferroelectric thin films, anisotropic ferrites, non-homogeneous materials: concrete, metamaterials, etc.) and non-destructive testing (NDT) sensors (cracks detection),
Microwave magnetics and applications of gyrotropic media (ferrites, magnetodielectric composites) in nonreciprocal and unidirectional devices (circulators, isolators, phase shifters, etc.),
Electromagnetic theory and specialised numerical-analytical methods for modelling and design of novel high frequency structures and devices,
Multiferroic composite media with crossed electromagnetic properties, multiphysic and multiscale modelling, measurements.
