Last week, the lead partners of the SED’UP project at Université Bretagne Occidentale carried out the first sediment sampling campaign on the French side of the project.

The campaign focused on two sites in the Brittany region:

  • 550 kg collected from the Port of Morlaix, sampled with the support of Morlaix Communauté, one of the SED’UP pilot sites
  • 550 kg collected from the Port of Lanildut, a small port located near Brest

This first campaign marks the beginning of a broader sampling effort across the four countries involved in the programme: France, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain. Sediments from multiple sites will be collected and analysed to support the development of innovative valorisation solutions.

The SED’UP sediment samples will undergo a comprehensive set of laboratory analyses, including geotechnical and chemical characterization, formulation testing, and ecotoxicological assessments. Sediments collected across the four countries will be analyzed by project partners at the IUT Brest-Morlaix (UBO), the University of Cádiz, and the University of Nantes–Saint-Nazaire.

The sediments from Morlaix and Lanildut will be the first to reach the laboratories, marking an important milestone for the SED’UP project and the start of the scientific work phase !
