If you are a minor when you request a visa for France, you will receive a "Mineur scolarisé" visa, which allows you to remain in France as long as you are a minor and the visa remains valid. Be aware, this is not a residence permit. Once you turn eighteen, you will need to request a first residence permit. Check your specific case below.
If you are turning 18 during the school year, you will need to request a first residence permit. The request is not available online. The CMI Brest can help you during this process. You will need to provide us with a complete request file (see list below). Once we have received the requested documents, we will set up an appointment with the sous-préfecture, where you will be provided with a récépissé (proof of legal stay, while your definitive residence permit is being fabricated).
If your "Mineur scolarisé" visa ends before your 18th birthday, you will have to request another visa to continue studying, which means leaving France for this request. We advise you to take advantage of the summer holiday to send your request. You can start the request online on France-visas.
