Jean-Marc Serme is currently exploring the history and relational impact of the Hawaiian language revitalization movement in the larger context of the sovereignty movement. He particularly focuses on the confrontation of knowledge systems as Hawaiian language immersion schools are integrated into the state public education system. He tries and connects educational issues with social and cultural conversations which both reshape the methodologies and epistemologies of Indigenous and non-Indigenous education, but also create new spaces of innovation in research epistemologies.
