Le projet a pour objectif la création d’une encyclopédie numérique de la sociabilité en Grande-Bretagne sur la période du 'long dix-huitième siècle' (1650-1850), à partir de laquelle il est possible d’accéder à une anthologie historique de sources textuelles ou iconographiques.
Par son caractère électronique et par sa pluridisciplinarité, DIGIT.EN.S s’adresse à la communauté des chercheurs anglophones et francophones, mais aussi plus largement au grand public qui grâce aux modalités de sa mise en place et ensuite de sa consultation et de son utilisation sera amené à s’interroger sur une valeur essentielle des Lumières qui trouve diverses formes d’expression au XXIe siècle pouvant aller de la permanence d’espaces institutionnels de sociabilité à celle de denrées « sociables » comme le café ou le thé ou encore de pratiques de sociabilité comme l’amitié. Le croisement des approches, sociologique, philosophique, linguistique, historique et littéraire permettra la réalisation d’un produit innovant et évolutif unique à ce jour dans l’univers de la recherche.

The key challenge of our digital encyclopedia lies in the construction of a cartography of forms and models of sociability in the long eighteenth-century.
An innovative tool and an interdisciplinary approach
• An open-access digital encyclopedia with a multi-modal search engine
• An international and interdisciplinary project led by the GIS Sociabilités / Sociability since 2017
• An H2020-funded project since 2019, promoting staff exchange and intersectoral collaborations.
• A digital humanities project managed by an experienced editorial team
• Encyclopedia entries written in English or French by eighteenth-century scholars in various fields (history, art history, literature, philosophy, material culture, linguistics ...) and reviewed by a dedicated committee
• A complementary anthology of texts related to various aspects of sociability and connected to the entries
